The best Steam Deck charger is any USB-C Power Delivery charger rated for 45W, and that's all you need. Valve's spec for the OLED lists a "PD3.0 Type C power supply, 45W," and iFixit sells the same adapter for the LCD and the OLED. The Anker 45W charger is our pick for a second brick. If you want the exact original, Valve's adapter sells for $34.99 at iFixit as of October 4, 2026. For trips, the Anker 20,000mAh power bank is the one to get.
The quick list:
- Best spare charger: Anker 45W USB-C charger. Meets the spec, includes a 6 ft cable.
- Best exact replacement: Valve's official AC adapter. $34.99 at iFixit.
- Best for laptops too: UGREEN Nexode 65W. Three ports, one brick.
- Best power bank: Anker 20,000mAh, 87W. Under $70 per PCGamesN.
How We Picked the Best Steam Deck Charger
We didn't test these chargers ourselves. We matched each one to Valve's published requirement, then checked what independent guides and the listings say. Three things decide whether a charger works.
Wattage. Valve specifies 45W. Pi My Life Up (September 2024) says the Deck takes at most 45W, so a bigger charger doesn't charge it faster. Its example: plug in a 120W USB-C PD charger and the Deck negotiates down to the 45W it needs. BGR (January 2026) agrees on a 45W floor and warns that cheap chargers "can damage your devices."
Power Delivery 3.0. This is the protocol that lets the charger and the Deck agree on a voltage. Pi My Life Up says a charger without PD 3.0 gets you about 10W, which is slow charging at best.
Cable. Valve's spec lists the adapter with a 2.5 m cable. GameRevolution puts the requirement at 45W/15V/3A. USB-IF ties 100W to cables rated for 5A. By that arithmetic, 45W at 15V is 3A, so an ordinary USB-C cable should do. We found no Valve statement on cables, so treat that as our reading. A 5A cable only matters if you also charge a laptop above 60W from the same port.
GaN (gallium nitride) is what makes chargers small. BGR suggests looking for it, but it's a size and efficiency feature, not a requirement.

1. Anker 45W USB-C Charger: Best Spare Charger
The Anker 45W lists a 45W output, a foldable plug and a 6 ft USB-C cable in the box, so you can charge the Deck straight out of the package. It sits at exactly Valve's number, which is the point: more wattage buys nothing for this handheld.
Anker is also the brand XDA Developers chose as its editor's choice, the Anker Nano II 45W, in a November 2023 guide. That's a different model, so it supports the brand's track record, not this charger.
Reasons to buy: meets the 45W spec, cable included, small enough for a bag.
Reasons to avoid: we found no independent test of this exact model, and Amazon prices move.
2. Valve Steam Deck AC Adapter: The Exact Replacement
iFixit sells the "genuine, original Steam Deck LCD or Steam Deck OLED charger made by Valve" at $34.99 as of October 4, 2026. It's 45W, with a 96-inch cord and a lifetime guarantee, and iFixit shows it as ready to ship. It works with all LCD and OLED storage sizes.
A third-party 45W brick does the same job. Buy the official one if you lost yours and want zero guesswork.
Reasons to buy: the exact charger from the box, a long cord, no compatibility questions.
Reasons to avoid: it's a single-purpose brick, and it isn't sold through Amazon in our links.
3. UGREEN Nexode 65W: Best If You Also Charge a Laptop
The UGREEN Nexode 65W is a 3-port charger with a GaN II chip and a foldable plug, per its Amazon title. Pi My Life Up recommended a UGREEN Nexode 64W model as a PD 3.0 charger that negotiates properly with the Deck. That is a related model, not this one.
The 65W doesn't speed up the Deck, which stops at 45W. It earns its place by powering a laptop or phone from the same outlet. No cable is listed in the box.
Reasons to buy: one brick for several devices.
Reasons to avoid: you're paying for headroom the Deck won't use.
4. Anker 20,000mAh Power Bank: Best Steam Deck Power Bank
PCGamesN's accessories roundup (April 17, 2026) names the Anker 20,000mAh power bank the best Steam Deck power bank. It lists 87W maximum output, one USB-A and one USB-C port, a weight of 440g and a price under $70. PCGamesN says it can charge the Deck "nearly four times." That looks high against Valve's 50Wh battery: 20,000mAh is roughly 74Wh at a cell's nominal 3.7V (our arithmetic, not PCGamesN's), so we'd plan on closer to one and a half charges. Valve rates the Deck at 50Wh and 3 to 12 hours of play.
The Amazon listing confirms the built-in USB-C cable. The weight is the cost: PCGamesN says it's about two-thirds of a Steam Deck. For the other add-ons worth a look, see the full list of Steam Deck accessories worth buying.
Reasons to buy: a named test pick, enough capacity for a long trip.
Reasons to avoid: heavy, and only two ports.
Also Considered, and Why Not
- JSAUX 45W. A 45W PD 3.0 charger with a 5 ft cable, named for the Deck in its title. It's a fair alternative to the Anker, but we couldn't confirm a price.
- AOHi Starship Pro power bank. PCGamesN lists 10,000mAh, 140W and a $139 retail price, with a $79 Kickstarter price. Fast, but pricey and small.
- UGREEN 145W, 25,000mAh power bank. XDA's 2023 pick at $150. Too dear for most Deck owners.
- Dock chargers. If you play on a TV, the charger plugs into the dock; see our Steam Deck dock guide. Valve's dock includes a charger; third-party docks such as the UGREEN don't.
What We Couldn't Verify
We haven't used any of these chargers, so we can't say how warm they run or whether the cables last. The wattage, protocol and cable details come from Valve's spec page, iFixit, Pi My Life Up, BGR, GameRevolution and the Amazon listings. We found no independent test of the Anker 45W, UGREEN Nexode 65W or JSAUX 45W models listed here. We couldn't read Valve's support page on charging, so we rely on its tech specs. Current Amazon prices and stock weren't confirmed. The XDA guide dates from 2023, and the Pi My Life Up piece from 2024. The 3A-cable reasoning is ours, not Valve's.
Bottom Line
Buy a 45W USB-C PD charger and stop there. The Anker 45W is the pick for a spare, Valve's $34.99 adapter is the safe exact match, and the Anker 20,000mAh bank is the travel add-on. Skip high-wattage chargers unless you need them for something else. Still choosing a handheld? Our verdict on whether the OLED is worth $789 covers price and battery.
FAQ
What wattage charger does a Steam Deck need?
45W. Valve's tech specs list a PD3.0 Type C power supply at 45W. Pi My Life Up says the Deck takes at most 45W, so a bigger charger works but won't be faster, because the Deck negotiates down to the 45W it needs. Any USB-C Power Delivery charger rated 45W or more meets the spec.
Can I use a phone charger on a Steam Deck?
Technically yes, slowly. Pi My Life Up says a charger without PD 3.0 gets about 10W, and it puts the floor for charging while playing at 25W. A 20W phone brick (our example) falls below that, so the battery may drop during play. A phone charger rated 45W with PD 3.0 is fine.
Can I use a laptop USB-C charger with the Steam Deck?
Yes, if it's a reputable PD 3.0 charger of 45W or more. BGR says "you can use them, but it doesn't mean you should" with cheap units. Pi My Life Up says the Deck negotiates and takes only the 45W it needs.
Can I charge a Steam Deck with a power bank?
Yes. Pick one that outputs at least 45W over USB-C PD. PCGamesN's choice, the Anker 20,000mAh at 87W, is said to charge the Deck "nearly four times," which looks high against a 50Wh battery. By our arithmetic, 20,000mAh is roughly 74Wh, so plan on about one and a half charges.
Do the LCD and OLED use the same charger?
Yes. iFixit sells the same genuine Valve adapter for the LCD and the OLED, at 45W and $34.99 as of October 4, 2026, with a 96-inch cord. A third-party 45W USB-C PD brick does the same job, such as our Anker 45W pick.
How long does a Steam Deck take to charge?
About 2 to 3 hours from empty with a 45W charger, according to Pi My Life Up. PCGamesN measured about 45 minutes to go from 20% to 80% on the OLED. Those are two outlets' figures, not a lab measurement. A bigger charger won't be faster, since the Deck takes at most 45W.
