Official trailer for Genshin Impact

Yes, Genshin Impact runs natively on PC, it's free to play, and you don't need an emulator. Install the official client, sign in with the same HoYoverse Account you use on your phone, and your progress loads. HoYoverse's support pages say cross-save works on PC, iOS, Android, PlayStation and Xbox. Last checked: October 3, 2026.

Do this first: on your phone, make sure your account has an email and password attached. This is the step people skip, and HoYoverse says email and password let you log in on any device, so it's the login that keeps your options open.

Is There an Official Genshin Impact PC Version?

There is. Genshin Impact launched on September 28, 2020, on Android, iOS, PlayStation 4 and Windows, according to Wikipedia. It's an open-world action RPG from HoYoverse, whose publisher entity is Cognosphere, and it's free to play, with optional in-game purchases.

On PC, you have two official routes:

  • The publisher's own site and launcher. HoYoverse's support pages refer to a launcher called HoYoPlay for installing and updating its games (we couldn't open the download page itself), and PCGamesN's guide says you can get the PC version from the developer's website. Start at genshin.hoyoverse.com and use the official PC client.
  • The Epic Games Store. Genshin Impact has a listing on Epic, and PCGamesN says you add it to your library with "Get" and install it from there.

It didn't appear in a Steam search on October 3, 2026. For the other ways to get mobile games on a computer, see our side-by-side look at official clients, Google Play Games and emulators.

How to Play Genshin Impact on PC

Some links on this page are offer links. If you use one, LevelRig may earn a commission. It doesn't change what we recommend: the official client comes first because it protects your account.

HoYoverse's article on syncing game data across platforms is the source for the steps below.

If you already play on your phone:

  1. On your phone, open the game's settings and go to Settings > Account > User Center. HoYoverse's new-device login article says to link an email and set a password there.
  2. On your PC, install the official PC client and wait for the first install to finish.
  3. Start the game and sign in with the same HoYoverse Account credentials, or the same linked third-party account. Per HoYoverse, your progress, items and currency load automatically once you're in.

If you're new to the game:

  1. Install the official PC client, create a HoYoverse Account, and play.
  2. Add an email and password in the User Center early. You'll want it the day you pick up the game on a phone.

Why the email matters

HoYoverse's new-device login article says that if your account is only linked to a Google or Apple account, you may hit problems logging in after switching to a new device. Linking an email fixes it, and you can then use that email and password to log in on any device. We found no HoYoverse page listing which third-party logins work on which platform, so don't assume a Google or Apple sign-in will follow you.

I play on my phone on the tram and on PC at night, so cross-save is the first feature I check in any game. Get the account sorted before you install anything, because it's far easier than fixing it later.

Mistakes That Cost Progress

  • Creating a new account on PC instead of signing in with your existing one. HoYoverse says to sign in on each platform with the same credentials, or the linked third-party account, so your progress loads. We found no HoYoverse page on what happens to a second account, so treat it as a separate save and don't spend anything on it until you've checked.
  • Relying on a Google or Apple login on a platform where it may not work. HoYoverse warns of login problems after switching devices if only a Google or Apple account is linked. We couldn't confirm which platforms support which third-party login.
  • Installing before you've added an email. HoYoverse's fix is to link an email and password in the User Center, which you can do from your old device. We found no HoYoverse page on what happens if you skip it and then lose access to that device, so do it first.

Genshin Impact PC Controller Support

Genshin Impact supports gamepads on PC. HoYoverse's controller article lists the Xbox Wireless Controller, the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, the DualSense and the DualShock 4 as supported. It warns that controllers outside that list "may lead to compatibility issues." A separate HoYoverse article says Nintendo Switch controllers are not officially supported on PC.

Genshin Impact on PC: Official Clients Compared

HoYoverse site and launcher Epic Games Store Android emulator
Who makes it HoYoverse Epic distributes the game A third party
Platform Windows Windows (listing shows Windows) Varies
Mobile progress Sign in with your HoYoverse Account Sign in with your HoYoverse Account (per PCGamesN) Through the mobile app's own login

An emulator makes no sense here. Our rule is the same as for every game in this cluster: when an official client exists, use it.

Genshin Impact PC System Requirements

HoYoverse's official requirements article (updated July 22, 2026) lists these for PC:

Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 10 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 64-bit
Processor 6th-gen Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen equivalent 7th-gen Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 5000 series or better
Memory 8 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 or equivalent; Intel Iris Xe or equivalent NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB or better
DirectX 11 11
Storage 110 GB 110 GB, on an SSD

Two notes. HoYoverse warns that storage needs may grow with future updates, and that low specs can cause install failures, crashes, black screens and freezes. And the Epic listing shows older numbers (100 GB minimum, 150 GB recommended, and older Windows versions), so trust HoYoverse's page.

On phones, the same HoYoverse article lists 40 GB of free storage as the minimum on Android and iOS (60 GB recommended), so the PC install is a much bigger commitment.

Is Genshin Impact Worth Playing on PC in 2026?

It depends on how you feel about gacha games. The Epic listing rates it Teen (ESRB) and says all in-game purchases are optional and that you can experience the full gameplay without them. That's the publisher's claim, and we haven't checked it.

Here's what the game asks of you, from HoYoverse's own pages:

  • Wishes are random. Per the Wish guarantee article, a 5-star character is guaranteed within 90 wishes, with a 50% chance it's the featured character. Weapons are guaranteed within 80, with a 75% chance of the featured one.
  • Primogems come from play or purchase. Per HoYoverse, you can't buy Primogems directly. You buy Genesis Crystals, which convert 1:1.
  • Resin paces you. Resin regenerates at 1 unit every 8 minutes up to a maximum of 200, per HoYoverse. Primogems can refill it, which is a spending trap if you let it be.
  • The Welkin Moon rewards daily logins. If you skip a day, HoYoverse says that day's 90 Primogems are forfeited, and the 30-day duration isn't extended.

The honest spending context: in January 2025, the FTC announced a $20 million settlement with the game's developer. The agency alleged it misled players about odds and obscured real costs, and the order bars selling loot boxes to teens under 16 without parental consent.

Our take: it's worth trying if you like exploring and don't mind a long, regular routine, and if you set a spending limit before you install. Write the number down. Don't save a card on the big screen "for later." If you're after a different RPG with the same model, our full verdict on a similar gacha, Neverness to Everness covers what it asks of you.

What We Couldn't Verify

We didn't run this setup ourselves. Everything comes from the pages linked above. Not confirmed:

  • HoYoverse's main site and some support pages didn't load readable content for us in a normal browser fetch, so the HoYoverse support text was read through the help-center interface, and the site's download page itself wasn't. Check it before you install.
  • We couldn't confirm whether the Epic version differs from the HoYoverse launcher version in any way beyond where you install it.
  • We found no HoYoverse policy on emulators, and no independent safety audit of one.
  • We found no HoYoverse page listing which Google or Apple logins work on which platform.
  • We didn't confirm Welkin Moon pricing or Genesis Crystal bundle sizes on an official page. Check the in-game shop.
  • Game updates change the specs. Re-check the requirements before a large update.

What Players Say

These come from recent reviews on the game's App Store listing, read in early October 2026. They're individual opinions.

  • The praise. One reviewer wrote, "Genshin is genuinely a really good game, the mechanics are borderline addictive," then added that the monetization is questionable.
  • The warning. Another reviewer was blunt: "Enough said, don't ever spend a dollar."
  • The storage complaint. A third wrote, "The game takes up way too much space!" while still calling the game great overall. That fits the 110 GB the official specs ask for on PC.

The same pattern runs through all three: a game people enjoy and a store they distrust. So set your spending limit before your first wish.

FAQ

Is Genshin Impact free on PC?

Yes, it's free to play, but it sells in-game items. Genesis Crystals convert 1:1 to Primogems, which you spend on wishes, and HoYoverse also sells the Blessing of the Welkin Moon. The Epic listing says purchases are optional, which is the publisher's claim. Set a spending limit before you install.

Can I play Genshin Impact on PC with my mobile account?

Does Genshin Impact have cross-save?

Yes. HoYoverse's support pages say cross-save works on PC, iOS, Android, PlayStation and Xbox with one HoYoverse Account. Sign in with the same credentials, or the same linked third-party account, and your progress, items and currency load. Link an email and password first to avoid login problems.
