How We Picked the Best Gacha Games
We kept games that run on Windows, are free to start, and are popular enough to have thousands of public ratings. Then we read three kinds of public data on October 4, 2026: Steam's review summary through its app reviews API where a Steam page exists, App Store ratings from each game's own listing (linked in its section), and critic scores summarized on Wikipedia. We cross-checked against recent roundups such as TheGamer's list of free Steam games. These counts use Steam's all-languages review data, so they run higher than the English-only summary some of our other pages quote (RAID: 59% of about 1,400; NTE: 82% of 2,988).
The order is our editorial order. Scores are one input, not the whole ranking: we also weigh how recent and consistent they are, and how the press describes spending. It isn't ranked by payout. Wuthering Waves is first because it has the largest Steam sample of the games on Steam, 87.5% positive out of about 56,800 reviews, and because TheGamer describes its rewards as generous. NTE is the odd one out: Steam is at 82.8% and its App Store average is the highest here, but Metacritic sits at 73 on PS5, so we placed it fifth. Some links on this page are offer links, and only Genshin Impact has one. If you use it, LevelRig may earn a commission. It doesn't change what we recommend. We left RAID: Shadow Legends out, and a later section says why.
1. Wuthering Waves
Genre: open-world action RPG. Platforms: Windows, macOS, PlayStation 5, Xbox, iOS, Android, per Wikipedia. Get it: Steam.
Steam shows 87.5% positive out of about 56,800 reviews, and the App Store average is 4.65 from about 59,500 ratings, per its App Store lookup. Wikipedia lists Metacritic at 71 on PC. The gacha: the Steam page lists in-app purchases. Game Rant says a 5-star is guaranteed every 80 pulls, a lost 50/50 makes the next 5-star the featured one, and pity carries over between banners. Spending: TheGamer names it the best free game in the genre on Steam and credits its generous in-game rewards, and Wikipedia's summary says critics found the gacha forgiving. Check the drive: Steam's minimum spec is 16 GB of RAM and 150 GB of storage, with an SSD required for the recommended spec. For you if you want exploration and combat, and the friendliest odds on this list.
2. Honkai: Star Rail
Genre: turn-based RPG. Platforms: Windows, iOS, Android and PlayStation 5, per Wikipedia. Get it: the HoYoverse site (we couldn't open it) or the Epic Games Store (we couldn't open its page). PCGamesN says those are the two PC options and that it isn't on Steam.
There's no Steam score. The App Store average is 4.40 from about 53,200 ratings, per its App Store lookup, and Wikipedia lists Metacritic at 80 on PC and 88% of critics recommending on OpenCritic. The gacha: The Loadout puts the hard pity at 90 pulls, with a 50% chance of the featured character and a guarantee after a loss, so the worst case is 180 pulls. Spending: Wikipedia's summary says reviewers found spending wasn't needed to progress, though opinions were mixed on the gacha strategy. For you if you like team building and a story told over many hours.
3. Zenless Zone Zero
Genre: urban fantasy action RPG. Platforms: Windows, iOS, Android, PlayStation 5 and Xbox, per Wikipedia. Get it: Steam, where it launched on June 16, 2026. Steam says it needs a HoYoverse Account, which you can link to Steam, and that it uses kernel-level anti-cheat.
Steam shows 87.8% positive out of about 17,300 reviews, a pool that's smaller because the Steam page is new. The App Store average is 4.07 from about 22,200 ratings, per its App Store lookup. Wikipedia lists Metacritic at 77 on PC. The gacha: VideoGamer lists a 90-pull hard pity, soft pity from 74, a 50/50 on featured Agents, and pity that carries over between banners of the same type. We found no press verdict on how generous it is. Steam's minimum spec asks for 8 GB of RAM and 75 GB of storage. For you if you want quick, stylish combat and a smaller install than the open-world games.
4. Genshin Impact
Genre: open-world action RPG. Platforms: Windows, iOS, Android, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, per Wikipedia. Get it: the official PC client or the Epic Games Store (we couldn't open its page). It isn't on Steam, and a January 2026 Steam Deck HQ report says talk of a Steam release rests on data-mined files, not an announcement.
The App Store average is 4.23 from about 579,300 ratings, by far the most of any game here, per its App Store lookup. Wikipedia lists Metacritic at 84 on PC. The gacha: HoYoverse's Wish guarantee article says a 5-star is guaranteed within 90 wishes, with a 50% chance of the featured character. Spending: in January 2025, the FTC announced a $20 million settlement with its developer over loot box odds. HoYoverse's system requirements ask for 110 GB. For setup, see our account steps for Genshin Impact on PC. For you if you want the biggest, most established open world and can say no to a store.
5. NTE: Neverness to Everness
Genre: open-world action RPG. Platforms: Windows on Steam, plus PlayStation 5, iOS and Android. Get it: Steam (since July 7, 2026) or the official site.
Steam shows 82.8% positive out of about 7,000 reviews, and the App Store average is the highest here, 4.73 from about 18,800 ratings, per its App Store lookup. Critics are cooler: Wikipedia lists Metacritic 73 on PS5. The gacha: Game Rant says the character banner has a 90-roll hard pity with no 50/50, so the featured character is the guaranteed one, and pity is shared across banners. Steam lists chance-based purchases, and Steam's minimum spec now lists 110 GB of storage, plus a Perfect World Games account and kernel-level anti-cheat. For you if you want a new city to explore and the shortest worst case to a featured character.
6. Arknights: Endfield
Genre: real-time strategy RPG with base building. Platforms: Windows, iOS, Android and PlayStation 5, launched January 22, 2026, per RPGSite. Get it: the official launcher or the Epic Games Store, per Pocket Tactics. Its Steam page says "Coming soon" with no reviews yet.
It's last because its public record is the shortest and the most mixed. Wikipedia lists Metacritic at 78 from 21 critics, with praise for visuals and combat and complaints about grinding and a paid battle pass. The App Store average is 4.48 from about 6,900 ratings, per its App Store lookup. The gacha: PCGamesN says hard pity is 80 pulls and starts a 50/50 with no carryover to the next banner, and that only 120 pulls guarantee the featured six-star. For you if you like factory-style base building alongside action combat.
Gacha Games Spending: Set a Limit First
Do this first: write a number down before you install. This is the step people skip, and a pity bar is not a budget. Don't save a card. Every game above sells randomized pulls, and pity rules cap the worst case without making it small: Honkai: Star Rail's worst case for a featured character is 180 pulls, per The Loadout, Zenless Zone Zero's too, and Endfield's guarantee takes 120. Press and players call some of these games generous, but "generous" describes free rewards, not a ceiling on what you might spend. The FTC's Genshin Impact settlement is the reminder that odds and costs weren't always clear.
Left Out: RAID: Shadow Legends
RAID is a gacha game too, with paid summons, but its Steam page sits at "Mixed": 59% positive of about 1,400 reviews on Steam's page summary (October 2) and 61.0% of about 2,790 across all languages on October 4. That's below the six above, so we left it out. If you still want it, see our RAID PC setup guide.
What We Couldn't Verify
- We didn't play these games for this list. Everything comes from Steam, the App Store, Wikipedia, TheGamer, PCGamesN, Game Rant, The Loadout, VideoGamer, RPGSite and Pocket Tactics.
- Scores aren't comparable across stores. Steam percentages and App Store stars measure different crowds, and we didn't convert one to the other.
- Steam counts here use the all-languages filter. They run higher than the English-only summary some of our other pages quote.
- We couldn't open some pages: HoYoverse's download site and the Epic Games Store pages for Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact.
- Pity rules come from the press, except Genshin Impact, which comes from HoYoverse. We didn't find official pity pages for the other five.
- We couldn't measure free rewards. "Generous" here means what TheGamer and critics wrote, not a count of pulls you earn.
- We didn't check Honkai: Star Rail's PC specs, so check the store page for its storage need.
- Platform lists for NTE come from the sources above and may be incomplete.
- Banners change every few weeks. Pity rules can change too.
